A Review of the Sources Related to the Khöömii Teaching Method of famous Educator B.Odsuren

The Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture (MNUAC) is the only university in Mongolia that provides professional training in khöömii. In 2004, the university launched the “Mongolian Khöömii” program, marking a pioneering effort both in Mongolia and worldwide. This initiative was led by khöömii instructor Odsuren.B and musicologist Gantsetseg.G, who developed the program's curriculum and training methodology based on their profound expertise and experience. This study highlights the perspectives and teaching methods of Odsuren.B, a distinguished educator, founder of classroom-based khöömii training, and faculty member at MNUAC, who has made significant contributions to the development of traditional Mongolian khöömii. It examines the achievements, processes, and methodologies associated with his work, as well as how his efforts have been analyzed and documented in the academic and artistic research of scholars and practitioners. The research data were collected and synthesized through a review of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral-level studies, academic presentations, articles, books, manuals, and interviews published in print and online newspapers and journals. These were analyzed and consolidated to provide comprehensive insights. This study adheres to the orthographic standards of the “Mongolian Orthography Rules Dictionary” (2019), employing the term “khöömii” in its text while referencing “khöömei” as cited in some scholarly works.
