운악(雲嶽) 이함(李涵)의 삶과 가학(家學)의 성립(成立)

A Study on Unak Lee Ham’s Life and Establishment of Family Study

본 연구는 운악(雲嶽) 이함(李涵, 1554~1632)의 삶과 그가 가학을 성립해가는 과정을 구명하는 데 목적이 있다. 이함에 관한 연구는 학계에서 본격적으로 다루어지지 않았기 때문에 생애에 대해 먼저 고찰할 필요가 있다. 이함은 재령이씨(載寧李氏) 영해파(寧海派)로 퇴계학맥의 중심인물이다. 이함의행적은 『운악집』을 비롯하여 그가 남긴 글과 그와 관련된 인물들의 기록, 그와 관련된 여러 일에 관해 언급한 후손들의 문헌 등에서 살펴볼 수 있다. 이함은 환로(宦路)에 뜻을 두지 않고 전원에서 생활하며 학문과 제가(齊家)에 힘썼다. 따라서 그의 교유는 대부분 영남지방에서 이루어졌다. 재령이씨 영해파는 퇴계학맥의 중심으로 일컬어진다. 특히 이함의 손자 이현일은 퇴계학맥의 적통으로 불리는 인물이다. 이현일의 학문적 배경에서 가학은 중요한지점에 있다. 재령이씨 영해파 가학의 기반은 조부인 이함에게서 비롯하였다 할 수 있다. 이함은 이시명을 비롯한 아들들과, 이휘일을 비롯한 손자들에게 학문을 전수하였다. 그는 스승에게 전수받고, 지역 문인들과 교유하며 학문을 발전시켜 가학을 성립하게 된다. 이함은 황응청의 문하에서 공부하였고김성일과 그 형제들을 종유하면서 학문의 세계를 넓혔으며 그 후손 역시 이에 영향을 받았다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the life of Unak Lee Ham(李涵, 1554-1632) and the process by which he established Sadak. Because research on Lee Ham has not been covered in earnest in academia, it is necessary to first learn more about his life. Lee Ham is a member of the Jaeryeong Lee clan and a member of the Yeonghae faction, and is a central figure in the Toegye school of thought. Lee Ham's actions can be examined through the writings he left behind, including Unakjip, the records of people related to him, and the literature of his descendants that mention various events related to him. Lee Ham did not focus on returning home, but lived in the countryside, focusing on his studies and his family. Therefore, most of his interactions took place in the Yeongnam region. The Yeonghae faction of the Jaeryeong Lee clan is said to be the center of the Toegye school of thought. In particular, Lee Ham's grandson, Lee Hyeon-il, is a person who is said to be a member of the Toegye school of thought. In Hyunil Lee’s academic background, sadism is at an important point. It can be said that the foundation of Jaeryeong Lee's Yeonghae school of sadism originated from his grandfather, Lee Ham. Lee Ham passed down learning to his sons, including Lee Si-myeong, and his grandsons, including Lee Hwi-il. He learned from his teacher, interacted with local writers, developed his studies, and established Sadak. Lee Ham studied under Hwang Eung-cheong and expanded his academic world by following Kim Seong-il and his brothers, and his children were also influenced by this.
