스티븐 스필버그 감독/톰 크루즈 주연의 영화 ｢마이너리티 리포트｣를 보면, 2054년 워싱턴, 범죄가 일어나기 전 범죄를 예측하여 범죄자를 처단하는 최첨단 치안시스템인 프리크라임(Pre-crime)은 범죄가 일어날 시간과 장소, 범행을 저지를 사람을 미리 예측해내고, 이를 바탕으로 미래의 범죄자들을 체포하는 등 완벽한 치안사회를 구현하는 존재로 나온다. 이에 범죄예방관리국이 예지시스템을 이용하여 예비범죄자를 검거한다는 발상이 과연 미래에 실현가능한 기술인지 한번쯤 고민한 사람들도 많았을 것으로 보인다. 논리적으로만 따진다면, 범죄해결을 위해서는 단순히 범죄자에게 대응하는 것보다는 사전 예방적 조치가 현명하고 효과적이다. 범죄예방을 위한 다양한 방법이 과거에도 있었지만, 범죄가 발생할 가능성이 높은 장소와 시기, 이전에 범죄를 저지른 경력이 있는 범죄자, 미래에 범죄를 저지르거나 범죄피해를 당할 가능성이 높은 사람을 예측해 내는 예측적 경찰활동 기법이 범죄예방에 효과적인 것은 부인할 수 없는 사실이다. 따라서 범죄예측의 위험성은 별론으로 하고, 과거의 방대한 데이터에서 인간이 상상할 수 없는 사물과 사물의 상관관계나 패턴을 발견, 인식하고, 그 관계나 패턴을 특정 개인에 관한 데이터 세트(data set)에 적용함으로써 범죄정보를 자동으로 분석 · 예측이 가능해진다는 점에서, AI의 가장 중요한 특징인 예측(predictions)능력을 활용하여, 영화 ｢마이너리티 리포트｣에서 나오는 범죄가 일어나기 전 범죄를 예측하여 범죄자를 처단하는 최첨단 치안시스템인 프리크라임(Pre-crime)이 가능한 시대가 도래할 수 있지 않을까 예측해 본다.

According to the movie “Minority Report,” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, Pre-crime, a state-of-the-art security system that predicts crimes before crimes occur in Washington in 2054 and punishes criminals, appears to be a perfect security society, such as predicting the time and place of the crime and arresting future criminals based on it. As a result, it seems that many people have thought about whether the idea of the Crime Prevention Administration to arrest prospective criminals using a predictive system is a feasible technology in the future. Logically speaking, preventive measures are wise and effective rather than simply responding to criminals in order to solve crimes. Although there have been various ways to prevent crimes in the past, it is undeniable that predictive police activity techniques that predict the place and time where crimes are likely to occur, criminals who have committed crimes before, and those who are likely to commit crimes or suffer criminal damage in the future are effective in preventing crimes. Therefore, aside from the risk of crime prediction, it is possible to automatically analyze and predict crime information by discovering and recognizing correlations or patterns between objects that humans cannot imagine from vast amounts of data in the past, and applying those relationships or patterns to data sets about specific individuals. Using AI’s most important feature, predictions, we predict that a state-of-the-art security system, Pre-crime, which predicts crimes before crimes in the movie ｢Minority Report｣, can come.
