네팔 현지 한국어 교원 양성의 현황 및 과제

Current Status and Challenges in Training Local Korean Language Teachers in Nepal

본 연구는 네팔 내 비원어민 한국어 교원 양성의 현황과 과제를 중심으로 네팔에서의 한국어교육 발전 가능성과 도전 과제를 살펴보았다. 네팔은 고용허가제를 중심으로 한국어 학습 수요가 급증하고 있으며, 최근에는 학문적 목적과 문화적 관심으로 학습 목적이 다변화되고 있다. 그러나 현지의 한국어교육은 시험 대비 과정에 편중되어 있고, 전문성을 갖춘 교원이 부족하여 교육의 질적 한계를 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 네팔 현지에서 실시된 한국어 교원 양성과정의 설문과 심층 인터뷰를 통해, 한국어교육과 교원 양성과정에서의 주요 요구와 만족도를 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 네팔에서 한국어교육 및 교원 양성은 단순히 언어 능력 배양에 그치지 않고, ODA의 차원에서 지역 경제와 사회 발전에 기여하는 방향으로 접근해야 할 필요성을 강조하였다. 그리고 이러한 관점에서 한국어교육과 교원 양성이 효과적으로 발전하기 위한 구체적인 방안을 제안하였다.

This study examines the current status and challenges of training nonnative Korean language teachers in Nepal, focusing on the potential for and obstacles to the development of Korean language education in the country. Mainly because of the Employment Permit System the demand for Korean language learning in Nepal has surged, and the purpose of learning has diversified to include academic goals and cultural interests. However, Korean language education in Nepal remains predominantly oriented toward exam preparation, revealing significant qualitative limitations owing to the shortage of professionally trained teachers. Using surveys and in-depth interviews conducted with participants of a Korean language teacher training program in Nepal, this study analyzes key needs and levels of satisfaction with Korean language education and teacher training programs. Based on these findings, this study highlights the necessity of approaching Korean language education and teacher training as an integral part of Official Development Assistance, aiming to not only enhance linguistic competencies but also contribute to local economic and social development. Within this framework, the study proposes specific strategies for effectively advancing Korean language education and teacher training in Nepal.
