예이츠와 엘리엇의 관계 살펴보기: 만남에서 상호 평가와 엘리엇 속의 예이츠 반향 찾기

Yeats and Eliot: From Their First Meeting and Mutual Evaluations to the Older Poet’s Transformation

예이츠와 엘리엇 사이의 관계 규명을 위한 시도는 있었지만 좀처럼 그해답을 찾지 못하는 것처럼 보인다. 이 글은 이 두 시인 사이의 관계 규명을 위해 기획된 것이다. 그래서 먼저 엘리엇과 예이츠 비교 연구의 의의와 이 두 시인 사이의첫 만남에서 시작하여 예이츠와 엘리엇 상호 간의 평가와 마지막으로 엘리엇 작품 속예이츠의 투영 모습을 고찰했다.

Not a few researchers have tried to closely define the relationships between Yeats and Eliot. But most seem to have had some limitations. I will make an effort to fill in the gap by researching the relations that remain neglected so far. I focus on the two poets’ first meeting, as well as the mutual evaluations of each other, and some transformations that could be traced to Eliot’s influence in Yeats’s works. As I show in this essay, Yeats and Eliot have had closer ties through their contact and their interest in each other.
