Review of Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) in Banking Industry

본 논문은 글로벌 트렌드와 규제 프레임워크 발전 과정을 토대로 은행 부문의 환경, 사회, 지배구조(ESG)를 검토하였다. 이 논문에서는 ESG 채권, ESG 공시, 그리고 ESG 규제 프레임워크의 세 가지 범주에 대한 은행 ESG의 역사적 발전 과정을 통해 인사이트를제공한다. 또한 최근의 글로벌 ESG 규제 프레임워크와 국내 은행과의 갭 분석을 서술하였고, ESG 규제 강화에 따른 기회와 도전과제 분석을 통해 국내 은행의 지속가능성을 위해 은행이 금융산업에서 ESG를 둘러싼 변화에서 기회를 얻는 것이 중요하다는 점을 강조하였다.

This research paper reviewed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) within the banking sector through addressing global trends and regulatory framework development. This paper provides insights about ESG in banking sector through an overview of the historical development of ESG in banks about three categories of ESG bonds, ESG disclosure and ESG regulatory frameworks. This paper also examines a gap analysis between the recent ESG global regulatory framework and standard and the ones to domestic banks, and analyzed the opportunities and challenges which are derived from strengthened ESG regulations for the domestic banks emphasizing that it is important for banks to get opportunities from the changes around ESG in banking industry for their sustainability.
