This paper analyzes the definition, characteristics and application status of network new media in university management, and reveals its advantages in information dissemination, ideological and political education and mental health management. Through the practical cases of typical colleges and universities, the successful application of new network media in student management is demonstrated. At the same time, the research also analyzes the existing challenges, including information security, student dependence, technical adaptability of managers and so on. In order to meet these challenges, this paper puts forward some countermeasures, such as strengthening the training of managers, perfecting the platform supervision mechanism, promoting students' independent participation and constructing an all-round management model. The research shows that the rational application of new network media not only improves the management efficiency, but also enhances students' sense of participation and belonging, provides new ideas and practical paths, and promotes the innovation and optimization of college students' management mode.
