A Semantic and Syntactic Aspects of Czech Light Verb Constructions

경동사(Light Verbs)와 서술명사(Predicative Nouns)의 결합체인 복합술어(Complex Predicates)와 같은 다어휘 언어단위(multiword lexical units)들은 그 개념적 모호성과 구조적 복잡성으로 인해 오랫동안 전통적 통사이론의 주변에 머물러 왔다. 그 주된 요인은, 범언어적으로 다양하게 분포하는 경동사 구문의 유형과 범위를 정의할 수 있는 포괄적인 개념이 없고 특히 경동사 구문에 참여하는 경동사와 서술명사의 복합한 논항구조를 만족할 만한 수준으로 기술할 수 있는 이론적 근거가 부재하다는 데 있다. 본고는 경동사 구문의 근본적인 속성들을 주로 서술명사를 중심으로 밝혀온 주류의 연구들과는 달리 경동사의 개념과 밀접한 연관이 있는 중요한 통사-의미적 문제들에 대해 주목하고자 한다. 특히 탈의미화된 경동사의 의미자질[+LIGHT]을 검증하고 경동사의 축약과 논항 간 공지시성 조건을 통해 경동사 구문의 통사-의미적 구조를 분석하여 경동사 구문의 논항구조에 잠재한 의미역 할당의 양면성에 대해 논의하고자 한다.

Multiword lexical units such as complex predicates, which consist of light verbs and predicative nouns, have long remained on the periphery of traditional syntactic theories. Light verb constructions pose a serious challenge for both theoretical and applied linguistics, as their syntactic structures are not solely determined by verbs alone but also by predicative nouns. There is assumed to be the lack of a comprehensive definition of the concept of light verbs that can account for the cross-linguistic diversity in the types and scope of light verb constructions. In particular, there is still no theoretical framework that adequately describes the complex argument structure formed by the interaction between light verbs and predicative nouns in light verb constructions. This paper investigates the syntactic and semantic representation of Czech light verb constructions. Light verb constructions represent a type of complex predicate where two syntactic elements serve as a single predicate. In this paper I focus to address crucial syntactic-semantic aspects closely related to the fundamental concept of light verbs. Specifically, based on the [+LIGHT] semantic features of desemanticized light verbs, this paper applies reduction and co-reference constraints to analyze the syntactic-semantic structure of light verb constructions. Finally I discuss the question of thematic role assignment between light verbs and predicative nouns.
