Purpose - This research examines the overseas expansion trends of Korean companies using the “Directory of Korean Companies Overseas” by KOTRA. It identifies key types of global expansion, industry sectors, and regional patterns. Design/Methodology/Approach - A data-driven analysis was conducted using statistical tools like Sankey diagrams, Bayesian Networks, and multidimensional scaling to visualize and interpret expansion trends based on region, industry, and entry mode. Findings - The study provides empirical evidence that Korean companies adopt distinct entry strategies depending on specific region. The choice of entry mode is influenced by the economic environment and industry structure unique to each market. Research Implications - By employing innovative methodologies, this research offers valuable insights into the global expansion patterns of Korean companies. In contrast to earlier studies that centered on particular industries or geographical areas, this analysis presents a holistic viewpoint by classifying data according to region, industry, and type of global expansion. The findings serve as a useful resource for policymakers aiming to formulate targeted assistance programs for businesses pursuing international growth. Additionally, companies can leverage these insights to pinpoint promising markets and devise strategies to mitigate entry risks. Future investigations could build on this work by integrating longitudinal datasets and macroeconomic variables to enhance the understanding of evolving global expansion dynamics.
