예이츠와 엘리엇의 상호 영향력에 대한 대부분의 연구는 일방적이게도 예이츠가 엘리엇에 끼친 영향에 대한 것이다. 그러나 1910년대 중반, 두 시인에게 거의 동시에 강한 영향력을 끼친 에즈라 파운드의 역할로 판단컨대, 이러한 연구방향은 교정될 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 각 시인의 서로에 대한 평가, 시의 본질에 대한 이해, 드라마 기법 및 두 시인의 대표적인 마스크 또는 퍼소나로서 크레이지 제인과 프루프록 사이의 공통점을 살펴봄으로써 일방적이 아닌, 상호 영향력을 추적한다.
Most source studies are on the influence of W. B. Yeats upon T. S. Eliot. But with Ezra Pound, who actively interacted with the two poets during mid-1910s, as their mediator, it is reasonable to think of their correlation in both directions. This study aims to uncover the hidden debts between them and to correct the points of correlation by looking into their view of one another, the nature of poetry, their dramatic methods, and Crazy Jane Yeats’s mask and Prufrock Eliot’s early persona.
