Enjambment in Yeats and Ashbery

W. B. 예이츠는 완벽주의 시인이다: 내가 알기로는 어느 누구도 그처럼꾸준히 작품을 수정한 시인은 없다. 또한, 그가 작품을 만질수록, 시들이 전보다 더완벽해진다. 본 논문은 시 형식만을 다루는 것이 아니라 시의 내용을 어떻게 다듬었는지도 검토한다. 저자는 예이츠와 애쉬버리를 비교하기 위해서 애쉬버리의 “삽화”와 예이츠의 “시립미술관을 다시 찾다”을 다룬다. 현대와 당대의 시의 차이점을 찾기 위해두 시의 앙장브망을 연구한다.

W. B. Yeats is a perfectionist poet: no poet, as far as I know, has ever as steadily reworked his poems as he does; as he works on them, the poems grow more perfect than before. This paper discusses not only his form but also his substance in poetry. To compare Yeats with Ashbery, I focus on Ashbery’s poem “Illustration” and then on Yeats’s poem “The Municipal Gallery Revisited.” I study the enjambment in both poems to take note of the differences in Modern and contemporary poetry.
