본 연구는 ‘큐레이팅’ 개념의 추상성과 불확실성에 대한 심층 탐구를 진행하고, ‘큐레이팅 다이아몬드’ 모델을 제안한다. 이 모델은 하워드 베커의 ‘예술계’ 이론과 빅토리아 알렉산더의 ‘보완된 문화 다이아몬드’ 이론 위에 구축되었으며, 사회학적 관점에서 예술 생산, 분배, 소비에 있어 큐레이팅의 역할과 작용을 재고하려 한다. 본 연구는 큐레이팅이 그 전통적 역할을 넘어선, 각 학문 간의 문화 생산 방법론으로 변화했음을 지적하며, 예술의 대중화와 민주화를 촉진할 뿐만 아니라, 예술과 사회 대화의 중요한 매개로서 지속적으로 확장되고 있음을 밝혔다. 본 연구는 큐레이터와 예술가 간의 협력 네트워크 분석을 통해, 큐레이팅이 예술 작품, 관중, 사회를 연결하는 다리가 되는 방법을 탐구하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 본 연구는 ‘큐레이팅 다이아몬드’ 모델의 한계에 대해서도 성찰할 것을 제안하며, 미래 큐레이팅의 학술 연구가 더 많은 문화적, 사회적 맥락하에서의 구체적인 큐레이팅 실천에 주목할 필요가 있음을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 큐레이팅의 다차원성에 대한 새로운 관점을 제시하고, 큐레이팅의 복잡성과 사회 문화적 의미를 이해하기 위한 논의를 제공한다.

This work conducts an in-depth exploration of the abstraction and uncertainty of the concept of ‘curating’ and proposes a ‘curating diamond’ model. The model is built on Howard Becker's ‘art worlds’ theory and Victoria Alexander's ‘revised cultural diamond’ model. This paper is an attempt to reconsider the role of curating in art production, distribution and consumption from a sociological perspective. This study pointed out that curating has changed beyond its traditional role to a cultural production methodology between disciplines. Curating not just promotes the popularization and democratization of art, but also continuously expands as an important medium/mediator for art and social dialogue. Through an analysis of the collaborative network between curators and artists, this study explored how curating mediates between and among works of art, spectators, and society. In addition, we propose to reflect on the limitations of the ‘curating diamond’ model, emphasizing the need for the future research in curation to pay attention to specific curating practices under socio-cultural contexts. This study presents a new perspective on the multi-dimensionality of curating and provides references for understanding the complexity and socio-cultural implications of curating.
