It is a time when changes in school space are strongly demanded along with changes in future society and educational environment. In order to perform various functions as a future school, changes in external space and expansion and improvement of educational space are necessary as much as changes and innovations in internal space. In particular, securing eco-friendliness and sustainability, which is in line with the name of the Green Smart Future School project, which is a major trend in recent changes in school space, is even more important. Accordingly, this study aimed to find alternatives to emphasize the image of a sustainable future school centered on public facilities as the first step in external space change for elementary schools that emphasize external activities and education and to increase eco-friendliness. To this end, we examined the external space composition and installed public facilities centered on 10 eco-friendly elementary schools in Canada that value interaction with nature and external experiential learning, and investigated which facilities were reflected in an eco-friendly manner along with a type analysis. The research results showed that the facilities with the most items applied were supply facilities (32) > road facilities (19) > convenience facilities (12) > environmental facilities and play facilities (10) > others (3), and the installation ratio was investigated as road facilities 57.9%, play facilities 54%, others 50%, supply facilities 48.1%, and environmental facilities 37%. The application rate by detailed facility item was investigated as management facilities 71.4%, rest facilities 67.1%, boundary facilities 66.7%, play facilities 60.0%, passage facilities 54.3%, traffic facilities 53.3%, sanitation facilities and U-City related facilities 50.0%, service facilities 46.7%, protection facilities 45.0%, landscape facilities 33.3%, and information facilities 31.4%. And the most common design types are benches and playground equipment, and the most important eco-friendly planning elements applied are the material aspects such as the use of natural elements and materials, the use of long-life materials, and recyclable materials, and in terms of design, it was investigated to be nature-friendliness, simplicity, and universality.
