교양교육, 글쓰기교육, 그리고 철학교육 : W대학교의 ‘올바른’ 글쓰기 교육

Liberal Arts Education, Writing Education, and Teaching Philosophy : ‘Proper’ Writing Education at W University

최근 교육의 쟁점은 전인교육을 지향해야 할 교육이 전문화됨에 따라 삶과 지식의 연관성이 없어지고 직업교육에 편중되었다는 것이다. 그렇게 전문화된 교육에 맞서 무엇보다 필요한 것은 ‘보편적 지성교육’(혹은 교양교육)인 것이다. 교양교육의 목적은 보통의 인간 정신을 문화적 인간, 즉 ‘글의 깨우침/배우고 익힘’으로 교양인으로 만드는데 있다. 교양인으로서의 훌륭한 삶은 ‘올바른 것’이 요구되기에 그것은 ‘올바른’ 글쓰기를 익히는 과정에서 더 잘 얻어진다고 할 수 있다. 21세기 정보화, 세계화 시대에 필수적으로 요구되는 역량은 의사소통의 능력이다. 이에 2000년대 이후 많은 대학들이 다양한 글쓰기 교육 관련 강좌가 개설하고 운영하면서 보다 체계적이고 효과적인 글쓰기 수업방안에 대한 기대감이 커지고 있다. 본고는 W대학교 공통교과 대학글쓰기교육을 중심으로 글쓰기 교육의 필요성과 그 실효성에 있어서 보다 안정적인 학술적 글쓰기 교육이 행해질 수 있는 ‘올바른’ 글쓰기 교육방안을 제안하고자 한다.

In present days, the issue of education is that as education, which should aim for whole-person education, becomes specialized, the connection between life and knowledge is lost and it is biased towards vocational education. What is needed most in response to such specialized education is ‘universal intellectual education’ (or liberal arts education). The purpose of liberal arts education is to make ordinary human minds into cultural human beings, that is, ‘enlightened/learned and practiced writing’, and cultured people. Since a good life as a cultured person requires ‘Proper things,’ it can be said that this is better acquired in the process of learning ‘Proper’ writing. In the 21st century, the ability to communicate is an essential competency in the era of information and globalization. Accordingly, since the 2000s, many universities have opened and operated various writing education-related courses, and expectations for more systematic and effective writing education methods are growing. This paper proposes a ‘Proper’ writing education method that can provide more stable academic writing education in terms of the necessity and effectiveness of writing education, focusing on the common subject university writing education of W University.
