기녀사의 문학적 세련미: 주방언의 기녀 소재 염사(艶詞) 연구

The Literary Elegance of Courtesan Poetry: A Study of Zhou Bangyan’s Courtesan-Themed Yan Ci

周邦彦은 艶詞의 창작에 뛰어난 사인으로, 그의 염사는 婉約詞의 성숙 과정에서 나타나는 풍부하고 치밀한 아름다움을 잘 보여준다. 그동안 주방언의 염사는 주로 그 주제가 좁고 제한적이었다는 이유로 상대적으로 주목받지 못했다. 비록 북송 당시에 이미 대중적인 인기를 끌었음에도 불구하고, 문사의 맛이 강한 탓에 柳永이나 秦觀의 사보다는 덜 주목받았다. 본 논문은 주방언의 사중 기녀를 소재로 한 30여 수의 염사를 대상으로 그 내용과 주제, 심미성을 고찰한다. 작품들은 크게 기루에서의 유흥과 기녀의 아름다움을 묘사한 작품, 기녀와의 이별과 지난날을 회상하는 작품으로 분류될 수 있다. 주방언 사에서 나타나는 ‘文士趣味’의 심미성은 賦體와 複脫의 필법 활용, 전인의 시구 인용과 정교한 서사 구조, 그리고 시공간과 감정의 파동을 활용한 음악적 리듬감에서 잘 드러난다.

Zhou Bangyan(周邦彦) is a distinguished poet renowned for his contributions to yan ci(艶詞), and his works exemplify the refined and intricate beauty characteristic of the wanyue ci(婉約詞) style at its height. While his poetry has often been overlooked due to its seemingly narrow thematic scope, it demonstrates a profound artistic sophistication and literary depth. Despite achieving considerable popularity during the Northern Song period, Zhou Bangyan’s poetry has received relatively less scholarly attention compared to that of Liu Yong(柳永) or Qin Guan(秦觀), largely due to its strong literary orientation. This study analyzes approximately thirty of Zhou Bangyan’s ci that take courtesans as their central theme, focusing on their thematic concerns, subject matter, and aesthetic qualities. These works can be broadly classified into two categories: those that depict the pleasures of the entertainment quarters and the beauty of courtesans, and those that express the sorrow of parting and recollections of past encounters. Zhou Bangyan’s poetry embodies the refined literary sensibility of scholar-officials, which is manifested through his sophisticated use of enumerative rhymed prose(賦體) and the meandering and returning narrative structure(複脫), his intertextual engagement with classical verse, his meticulously crafted narrative frameworks, and his creation of musical rhythm through nuanced manipulations of time, space, and emotion. By re-examining Zhou Bangyan’s ci poetry on courtesans, this study aims to shed new light on his literary achievements and reposition his works within the broader discourse on Song ci.
