디지털 상상 개념을 활용한 콘텐츠 수용 연구 - 뉴진스 앨범 <Get Up> 뮤직비디오를 중심으로

A Study on Content Reception Utilizing the Concept of Digital Imagination: Focusing on the Music Video of NewJeans’ album <Get-Up>

본 논문은 디지털 콘텐츠의 수용 과정을 관객이 경험하는 상상을 중심으로 해명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 바바의 혼종적 공간과 들뢰즈의 시간-이미지, 플루서의 기술적 이미지 등의 이론적 개념을 활용하여 디지털 상상 개념을 새롭게 제시하고, 관객의 상상 경험을 세 가지 틀- 공간과 시간, 장치-작동자의 관점-을 통해 구체적으로 들여다본다. 이를 위해, K팝 아이돌 그룹 뉴진스가 2023년에 발매한 앨범 <Get Up>에 수록된 세 곡, ‘Super Shy’, ‘ETA’, ‘Cool with You’의 뮤직비디오 관객을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 관객은 헤테로토피아적 공간과 순수한 시청각적 이미지를 통해, 현실과 비현실의 공존과 현재성의 출현, 사라지는 주체를 경험하였다. 또한, 관객은 디지털 공간에서 뉴진스와 ‘상호주관적인’ 관계를 형성하면서, 새로운 가능성의 세계로 진입하였다. 본 연구는 관객의 콘텐츠 수용 양상을 해명하는 데 디지털 상상 개념을 제안하고, 그 과정을 개념화하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

This paper aims to elucidate the process of audience reception of digital content, with a focus on the imagination experienced by spectators. It introduces a novel concept of digital imagination by utilizing theoretical concepts such as Bhabha’s hybridity, Deleuze’s time-image, and Flusser’s technical imagination. The study examines the audience’s imaginative experience through three frameworks: space and time, apparatus, and the perspective of the person and apparatus. To achieve this, the paper conducts in-depth interviews with music video spectators, paying attention to the strategies employed by the K-pop idol group NewJeans in their album <Get Up>, released in 2023, particularly in songs like ‘Super Shy’, ‘ETA’, and ‘Cool with You’, to stimulate fans’ imagination in the digital space. The research reveals that spectators experienced different spaces and layered temporality through heterotopia spaces and pure visual images. Additionally, audiences, within the unfamiliar yet familiar world presented by digital images, were seen to construct a ‘present’-centered, ‘inter-subjective’ relationship with the world. The significance of this study lies in proposing the concept of digital imagination to elucidate patterns of audience content reception and conceptualizing this process.
