아동문학 활용 초등 영어수업이 세계시민성 및 영어 리터러시 함양에 미치는 영향

Effects of Children's Literature on the Global Citizenship and English Literacy of Elementary School Students

본 연구는 세종시 소재 초등학교 6학년 학생 25명을 대상으로 아동문학을 활용한 영어수업이 학습자의 세계시민성 및 영어 리터러시의 함양에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보았다. 다변량 분산분석 결과, 평가 시기(사전·사후)와 학습자 성취도 수준(상·중·하)은 세계시민성과 영어 리터러시의 변화에 통계적으로 유의미한 수준에서 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 보다 구체적으로 보았을 때, 세계시민성의 모든 하위 영역(인지적, 사회·정서적, 행동적)에서 긍정적인 효과가 확인되었고, 학습자들의 읽기와 쓰기 능력 또한 향상된 것으로 분석되었다. 질적 자료 분석 결과 역시 이러한 연구 결과를 뒷받침하며, 학습자의 세계시민성과 영어 리터러시 성장에 대한 추가적인 근거를 제공하였다.

This study examined the impact of elementary English classes utilizing children's literature on the development of global citizenship and English literacy among 25 sixth-grade students at an elementary school in Sejong City. The results of a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) indicated that both the assessment period and students’ achievement levels had statistically significant effects on changes in global citizenship and English literacy. More specifically, positive effects were observed across all subdomains of global citizenship (cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral), and students’ reading and writing skills also showed improvement. Furthermore, qualitative data analysis supported these findings, providing additional evidence of students' growth in global citizenship and English literacy.
