전국미술교과모임의 창립 배경과 문제 인식

The National Art Education Community : Its Founding Purpose and Recognition of Educational Problems

전국미술교과모임은 기존 미술 교육이 아동의 정서 함양에 충분한 역할을 하지못한다는 문제의식을 바탕으로 창립되었다. 이들은 아이들이 자신의 삶을 자발적으로 표현할 수 있는 교육을 실천하고자 했으며, 이러한 활동은 민주화를 향한 사회· 교육 운동과 같은 시대적 흐름 속에서 이루어졌다. 본 연구는 전국미술교과모임에서 발간한 회지와 여러 자료를 수집하고 초창기활동 교사들의 인터뷰를 분석하여, 당시의 사회적 배경을 조명하고 미술 교사들이인식했던 문제와 이를 해결하기 위한 실천을 정리하고자 한다. 분석 결과 당시 미술 교사들은 획일화된 표현 활동, 국정 교과서, 평가 및 고교입시, 열악한 미술 수업 환경, 학교 환경 정리, 주변 교사들의 미술 수업에 대한인식 부족, 미술 교사의 전문성의 부재를 문제점으로 인식하였다. 그 문제는 주로회지를 통해 전국 미술 교사들에게 공유하고 다양한 해결 방안을 모색했다. 전국미술교과모임의 역사는 우리나라 미술 교육과 미술 교사의 역사와 맞닿아있다. 본 연구는 교수학습 공동체를 통해 미술 교육의 변화를 이끌어온 교사들의활동을 조명하며, 교사 주도의 공동체가 교육 혁신의 중요한 동력이 될 수 있음을보여주고자 한다. 또한, 이를 바탕으로 오늘날 교육 현장에서 직면한 문제들 역시교사들의 연대와 협력을 통해 해결할 수 있다는 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

The National Art Education Community of South Korea was founded based on the awareness that existing art education was insufficient in fostering children's emotional development. The community aimed to implement an educational approach that encouraged children to express their lives voluntarily, aligning its activities with the broader socio-educational movements toward democratization. This study collects and analyzes journals published by The National Art Education Community, various related materials, and interviews with early participating teachers to examine the social background of the time and identify the issues recognized by art teachers, as well as the practical efforts made to address them. The analysis reveals that art teachers at the time identified several key problems, including standardized expression activities, government-designated textbooks, assessments and high school entrance exams, poor art class environments, school environment management, a lack of recognition of art education among other teachers, and the absence of professional development opportunities for art teachers. These issues were primarily shared among art teachers nationwide through the community's journal, which served as a platform for exploring various solutions. The history of The National Art Education Community is closely linked to the history of art education and art teachers in South Korea. This study highlights the role of teacher-led learning communities in driving change in art education, demonstrating that such collaborative efforts can serve as a crucial force for educational innovation. Furthermore, it suggests that the challenges faced in today’s educational field can also be addressed through the solidarity and cooperation of teachers.
