Integrating Economics and Ethics: Educational Applications Based on Amartya Sen’s Theory

현대 경제학은 효율성과 성장 중심의 논리에 집중하는 경향이 있으며, 이로 인해 경제적 선택과 윤리적 책임 사이의 연계가 간과됐다. 본 연구는 아마르티아 센(Amartya Sen)의 역량 접근법(capability approach), 복지 경제학, 사회 선택 이론(social choice theory)을 중심으로 경제와 윤리의 통합적 사고를 탐구하고, 이를 고등학교 『현대사회와 윤리』 및 『통합사회』 과목 교육과정에 적용하는 방안을 제안한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 센의 이론적 통찰을 바탕으로 윤리적 소비, 지속가능발전, 다문화 사회에서의 상호 존중과 관용 등의 주제를 분석하며, 학생들이 경제적 선택과 사회적 책임을 균형 있게 고려할 수 있도록 교육적 실천 방안을 모색한다. 궁극적으로 본 연구는 경제와 윤리를 융합하는 교육 모델을 통해 학생들이 비판적 사고 역량을 함양하고, 지속가능한 미래를 위한 민주시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 하는데 기여하고자 한다.

Modern economics tends to focus on efficiency and growth, often overlooking the interconnections between economic decision-making and ethical responsibility. This study explores the integrated perspective of economics and ethics through the theoretical framework of Amartya Sen, including the capability approach, welfare economics, and social choice theory. Furthermore, it proposes an educational application of Sen’s theories within the high school curricula of Ethics in Contemporary Society and Integrated Social Studies. By analyzing key topics such as ethical consumption, sustainable development, and multicultural respect and tolerance, this study seeks to develop practical educational strategies that enable students to balance economic choices with social responsibility. Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to the development of an educational model that fosters critical thinking skills and prepares students to become responsible global citizens committed to building a sustainable future.
