2022 개정 영어과 교육과정의 선택 과목 성취기준 분석: 차별성과 중복성을 중심으로

An analysis of achievement standards in English elective courses of the 2022 Revised National Curriculum: Focusing on distinctiveness and overlap

This study analyzed the distinctiveness of the achievement standards among English elective courses in the 2022 Revised National Curriculum. Its aim was to examine whether the achievement standards can guarantee students’ right to choose subjects in alignment with the purpose of the high school credit system. The three categories of elective courses were analyzed: general (English I, English II, English Reading and Writing), career (English Presentation and Discussion, Advanced English, Reading British and American Literature, Advanced English Reading and Writing), and convergence electives (Practical English Conversation, Media English, World Culture and English). The findings revealed considerable overlap in achievement standards among general elective courses in both comprehension and expression domains. Career elective courses showed varying degrees of distinctiveness across subjects: While the two advanced courses demonstrated high overlap with general electives, English Presentation and Discussion and Reading British and American Literature contained more distinctive achievement standards. Among convergence electives, Media English and World Culture and English exhibited distinctly different achievement standards from other electives, though Practical English Conversation showed considerable overlap in the comprehension domain. The study suggests introducing more distinctive achievement standards and developing systematic support for course implementation to ensure meaningful student course selection.
