/ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형의 음향음성학적 특성 - 충남 지역을 대상으로

Acoustic Characteristics of Sound in the Realization of High-Vowelization Phenomenon : Focusing on Chungnam dialect

본고는 /ㅓ/ 고모음화 현상의 실현형이 보이는 특성을 실험음성학적인 방법을 통해 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 1920~30년대생 충남 지역어 화자의 자연발화 음성 자료를 대상으로 ‘/ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형, 장음 /ㅓː/, 단음 /ㅓ/, 모음 /ㅡ/’를 추출하였다. 추출한 음성파일을 이용하여 모음의 지속시간과 포먼트값을 측정하여 대조하였다. 분석 결과, /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형의 지속시간은 남녀 모두 입력형인 장음 /ㅓː/의 지속시간보다 통계적으로 유의하게 짧은 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형의 조음위치를 분석한 결과, 남성은 /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형이 모음 /ㅓ/나 모음 /ㅡ/와 F1·F2값에서 다른 집단으로 나타났다. 여성의 경우는, /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형이 모음 /ㅓ/와는 F1이나 F2에서 모두 다른 집단으로 나타났으나, 모음 /ㅡ/와는 F1이나 F2 모두 동일 집단으로 나타났다. 이로써 고모음화 현상의 입력형과 출력형은 지속시간은 물론 조음위치 모두에서 서로 다른 모음이라는 점을 검증해 볼 수 있었다. 특히, 여성은 /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형이 모음 /ㅡ/와 동일한 집단에 속하는 소리로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 통해 /ㅓ/ 고모음화 실현형은 입력형 /ㅓ/에 비하여 길이는 짧아지고, 조음위치는 /ㅡ/ 모음과 유사함을 확인할 수 있다.

This study aims to investigate the acoustic characteristics of the realization types of the /ㅓ/ high vowelization phenomenon using experimental phonetic methods. For this purpose, natural speech data from native speakers of the Chungnam dialect born in the 1920s and 1930s were analyzed. The target vowels—realized forms of /ㅓ/ high vowelization, long vowel /ㅓː/, short vowel /ㅓ/, and vowel /ㅡ/—were extracted from the speech data. The duration and formant values of the extracted vowels were measured and compared. The analysis revealed that the duration of the realized form of /ㅓ/ high vowelization was statistically significantly shorter than that of the input form, the long vowel /ㅓː/, for both male and female speakers. Regarding articulation, the realized form of /ㅓ/ high vowelization in male speakers appeared as a distinct group in terms of F1 and F2 values, separate from both the vowel /ㅓ/ and the vowel /ㅡ/. In female speakers, the realized form of /ㅓ/ high vowelization was distinct from /ㅓ/ in both F1 and F2 values but formed the same group as /ɯ/ in both parameters. These findings demonstrate through experimental phonetic analysis that the input and output forms of high vowelization are distinct vowels in terms of both duration and articulation. Notably, for female speakers, the realized form of /ㅓ/ high vowelization can be considered identical to the vowel /ㅡ/. Overall, the results confirm that the realized form of /ㅓ/ high vowelization is shorter in duration compared to its input form and exhibits an articulation similar to that of /ㅡ/.
