An Exploratory Discussion on Career Counseling Interventions Using a Narrative Approach for Isolated and Withdrawn Youth

목적 본 연구는 고립⋅은둔 청년을 위한 진로상담 개입의 필요성을 강조하고, 기존의 전통적 진로상담의 이론으로는 이들의 요구를 충분히 반영하기 어려운 한계를 논의하였다. 본 연구에서는 내러티브 접근을 중심으로 포스트모던 진로상담 이론을 적용하여 고립⋅은둔 청년의 진로상담을 위한 개입방안을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 고립⋅은둔 청년이 경험하는 정체성 혼란과 사회적 단절 문제를 해결하고 자율적이고 의미 있는 진로 이야기를 재구성할 수 있도록 돕는 상담 과정에 주목한다. 방법 본 연구는 문헌연구를 통해 진행되었다. 먼저, 고립⋅은둔 청년의 개념과 특성을 정의하고, 이들의 진로발달과 관련된 주요 이슈를 분석하였다. 이어서 내러티브 접근의 진로상담이 이들에게 적합한 이유를 논의하였다. 포스트 모던 진로이론인 내러티브 접근에서 강조하는 정체성 재구성, 의미 만들기, 자아 정체성 등의 개념으로 고립⋅은둔 청년을 위한 진로상담의 실천적으로 적용할 수 있는 방안과 상담자의 역할을 논의하였다. 결과 내러티브 접근은 고립⋅은둔 청년의 경험을 존중하고 그들의 목소리를 반영하는 데 있어 적절한 개입 기법이 될 수 있다. 내러티브 접근의 진로상담은 진로정체성 구축을 핵심으로 주관적 경험을 새롭게 바라보며 자신의 삶을 다시 해석하고 긍정적 미래를 상상할 수 있기에 진로탐색을 촉진하고 선택 과정에서 효과적인 개입이 될 수 있다. 결론 고립⋅은둔 청년을 위한 진로상담 개입에 내러티브 접근이 적합한 대안이 될 수 있음을 제안한다. 또한 진로상담자가 이 과정에서 수행할 역할에 대해 논의하며 진로상담 개입 방안의 가능성을 제시한다.

Objectives This study emphasizes the necessity of career counseling interventions for isolated and withdrawn youth and discusses the limitations of traditional career counseling theories in adequately addressing their needs. The study aims to explore intervention strategies for career counseling tailored to these individuals by applying postmodern career counseling theories, particularly the narrative approach. It focuses on the counseling process that helps isolated and withdrawn youth resolve identity confusion and social disconnection while reconstructing an autonomous and meaningful career narrative. Methods This study was conducted as a literature review. First, it defines the concept and characteristics of isolated and withdrawn youth and analyzes key career development issues related to this group. Subsequently, it discusses the suitability of the narrative approach in career counseling for these individuals. The study explores practical intervention strategies and the role of counselors by applying key concepts of the narrative approach, such as identity reconstruction, meaning-making, and self-identity, which are emphasized in postmodern career theories. Results The narrative approach respects and incorporates the experiences and voices of isolated and withdrawn youth, making it a suitable intervention technique. Narrative career counseling, focused on constructing career identity, enables individuals to reinterpret their subjective experiences, reframe their lives, and envision a positive future. This approach fosters career exploration and provides effective support in the career decision-making process. Conclusions This study suggests that the narrative approach is a suitable alternative for career counseling interventions for isolated and withdrawn youth. It also discusses the roles and responsibilities of career counselors in this process and presents the potential of narrative-based interventions as a career counseling strategy for this population.
