The Importance of Humanities in 21st Century Career Education

본 연구는 인문학이 진로교육에서 주변적인 역할을 한다는 기존의 인식을 반박하며, 인문학이 비판적 사고, 윤리적 판단, 문화적 문해력, 적응력, 그리고 의사소통 능력을 함양하는 데 필수적인 역할을 한다는 점을 강조한다. 이러한 역량은 경영, 의료, 기술을 포함한 다양한 산업 분야에서 점점 더 필수적으로 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 주제범위 문헌 고찰(scoping review)을 통해 인문학적 역량이 노동시장 준비도와 직업적 성공에 어떻게 기여하는지를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 인문학을 진로교육에 통합하면 학제 간 문제 해결 능력이 향상되고, 윤리적 의사결정이 강화되며, 인간 중심의 전문 직업 실천에서 혁신이 촉진되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 인문학 교육은 자동화와 인공지능이 전통적인 직무 역할을 변화시키는 시대적 상황에서 창의적이고 윤리적으로 책임 있는 리더십을 구축하는 데 중요한 기반을 제공한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 인문학과 STEM 및 경영 교육을 연결하는 체계적인 학제 간 프레임워크를 제안하며, 역량 기반 교육과정, 산업 파트너십, 정책 개혁을 통해 인문학이 진로교육의 핵심 요소로 유지될 수 있도록 해야 한다고 주장한다.

This study challenges the notion that humanities are peripheral in professional training by highlighting their essential role in cultivating critical thinking, ethical reasoning, cultural literacy, adaptability, and communication skills—competencies that are increasingly indispensable across diverse industries, including business, medicine, and technology. Through a scoping review of existing literature, this research examines how humanities-based competencies contribute to workforce readiness and professional success. Findings indicate that the integration of humanities into career education enhances interdisciplinary problem-solving, strengthens ethical decision-making, and fosters innovation in human-centered professional practices. Moreover, as automation and artificial intelligence reshape traditional job roles, humanities education provides a foundation for creative and ethically responsible leadership. The study proposes a structured interdisciplinary framework that bridges humanities with STEM and business education, advocating for competency-based curricula, employer partnerships, and policy reforms to ensure humanities remain a core component of professional training.
