젠더리스에 대한 현상학적 해석 소론 : 메를로-퐁티의 신체 현상학과 살 존재론을 중심으로

A Phenomenological Interpretation of Genderless : Focusing on Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology of the Body and the Ontology of the Flesh

본 논문은 현대 우리 사회의 성 갈등과 그로부터 파생된 ‘젠더리스’ 개념을 살펴보고, 성 갈등의 결과 혹은 해결 개념으로 등장하는 젠더리스 개념을 메를로-퐁티의 철학을 통해 분석함으로써 그 의미와 한계를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 본고의 목적을 이해 논의는 다음과 같은 순서로 전개된다. 우선, 현대 우리 사회의 갈등 양상을 살펴보고, 그 중 성적 갈등 양상의 추이와 특징을 설명한다. 다음으로 성적 갈등의 진행 양상을 성(sex)-젠더 – 젠더리스의 순서로 일변하며, 각 개념의 특징과 갈등 변화의 양상을 추적한다. 그 후, 논의는 메를로-퐁티의 신체 현상학과 살 존재론의 관점에서 젠더리스가 어떻게 이해될 수 있는지를 밝힌다. 이 과정 속에서 젠더 사이의 갈등을 무화하는 방식의 결과를 초래하는 젠더리스 개념은 문제를 해소하는 것이 아님을 강하게 주장한다. 마지막으로, 젠더 갈등은 젠더 사이의 힘의 이동을 위한 동기라는 점을 강조하고, 바로 이것이 젠더 개념의 존재론적 함의임을 주장하는 것으로 논의를 마무리 한다.

This article examines the gender conflict in our contemporary society and the concept of “genderless” that arises from it, but analyzes critically the concept of genderless, which appears as a result or solution to the gender conflict, through the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty to examine its meaning and its limits. For this purpose, the discussion will proceeds in the following order. First, we examine the conflict patterns in our contemporary society and explain the trends and characteristics of sexual conflict patterns. Then we detail how the progression of sexual conflict changes in the order sex – gender – genderless, and we trace the characteristics of each concept and the changing aspects of the conflict. The discussion then illuminates how genderlessness can be understood from the perspective of Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of the body and ontology of the flesh. In this process, we strongly argue that the concept of genderlessness, which results in a way that neutralizes the conflict between genders, does not solve the problem. Finally, we conclude the discussion by emphasizing that gender conflict is a motivation for the transfer of power between genders, and that this is precisely the ontological implication of the concept of gender.
