Purpose - This study explores small-scale dairy operation challenges, roles, and insights in the case of Juju Dhau, a typical yogurt product, in Bhaktapur, Nepal. Design/Methodology/Approach - This study employed a quantitative approach, including a binary logistic regression analysis on the mode of Juju Dhau trades against challenges and contributions, and found that smallscale dairies are crucial for local livelihoods as a basis of employment for communities at a significant level likelihood of rented places over own homes. Findings - Regarding the challenges, the study found difficulties in household expenditure, indicating household financial pressure and daily income-earning activities. These indicate significantly decreasing difficulties, and for the future market, it was identified that individuals are more likely to trade renting over owning homes. The other challenges are probably less pronounced in rented places or own homes. The study offers new insights into Juju Dhau’s socio-economic trade dynamics, revealing that financial burdens favor renting over home-based trading. It uniquely quantifies this underexplored aspect, contrasting earlier findings by highlighting an inverse relationship between cultural preservation and trading decisions. Research Implications - Findings underscore stakeholder policy intervention in preserving cultural heritage and ensuring economic sustainability in traditional dairy sectors amidst modern market dynamics.
