초등학교 고학년 아동의 다문화효능감과 민주시민의식의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과

The meditating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between multicultural efficacy and democratic citizenship of upper-grade elementary students

연구목적: 본 연구는 초등학교 고학년 아동의 다문화효능감과 민주시민의식의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과를 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 초등학교 고학년(4-6학년) 아동 212명의 설문지를 SPSS 27.0을 이용하여 기술통계, 차이분석, 상관분석을 실시하고, Hayes(2022)의 PROCESS macro v.4.2(model 4)를 이용하여 매개효과 검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 초등학생의 성별, 임원 경험, 봉사 경험 유무에 따라 다문화효능감, 자아존중감, 민주시민의식에 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 다문화효능감, 자아존중감, 민주시민의식 간에는 모두 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 초등학생의 다문화효능감이 자아존중감을 통해 민주시민의식에 영향을 미치는 매개효과가 유의하였다. 논의 및 결론: 초등학생의 민주시민의식을 높이기 위해서는 다문화효능감을 증진시키기 위한 노력과 함께 아동의 자아존중감을 높이는 방안 모색이 필요함을 시사받았다.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between multicultural efficacy and democratic citizenship of elementary students. Method: The data of 212 upper-grade elementary students(4th~6th grade) was collected. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and mediation effect were performed using SPSS 27.0. and Hayes’s(2022) PROCESS macro v.4.2 (model 4). Results: First, children’s multicultural efficacy, self-esteem, and democratic citizenship were significant difference according to gender, leader experience, and volunteering experience. Second, there was appeared to be a significant positive correlation between the variables. Third, children’s self-esteem was found to have a significant mediating effect in the relationship between multicultural efficacy and democratic citizenship of children. Conclusion: This suggests that in order to increase elementary student’s democratic citizenship, children’s self-esteem should be guaranteed along with efforts to increase multicultural efficacy.
