Analyzing the Constraints to Senior Tourism

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural constraints on anticipated emotions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions in senior tourism participation. Design/methodology/approach - This study surveyed seniors in elderly facilities in Gangwon Province using a structured questionnaire and applied an ordered logit model to analyze the effects of intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural constraints on anticipated emotions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions. Findings - The study revealed that structural constraints most strongly hinder behavioral intentions, and interpersonal and structural constraints negatively impact attitudes. Structural barriers, such as insufficient facilities and transportation challenges, emerged as significant obstacles. Seniors experiencing greater interpersonal constraints were less likely to develop positive attitudes toward tourism. These findings underscore the importance of addressing these barriers to enhance senior engagement in tourism activities. Research implications or Originality - This study underscores the distinct effects of various constraints on senior tourism participation, offering valuable insights for crafting targeted strategies to promote greater engagement of senior citizens in tourism activities.
