浅析《查姆》中数字的英译策略——以徐蔚和熊莺译本为例

Study on the English Translation Strategies of Numerals in Chamu: Illustrated by Xu Wei and Xiong Ying’s Translations

As a national intangible cultural heritage, the Yi ethnic group’s creation epic Chamu records the simple understanding of the origin of all things and human production and life by the ancestors of the Yi ethnic group. It is an important part of the Yi ethnic culture. Its English translations possess unique ethnic and regional characteristics and serve as a model for the translation of ethnic group’s epics of intangible cultural heritages into foreign languages. The text involves a large number of number translations. For number translations, on the one hand, the artistic features of numbers themselves and the rhythm of poetry should be properly handled, and on the other hand, the conveyance of ethnic cultural connotations should also be emphasized. In the English translations of Chamu, both domestication and foreignization translation strategies are adopted by Xu Wei and Xiong Ying. This paper sums up the strategies and methods for the English translation of numbers in Xu Wei and Xiong Ying’s translations, hoping to provide references for the translation of intangible cultural heritage epics.

作为国家非物质文化遗产，彝族创世史诗《查姆》记录了彝族先民对万物起源和人类生产生活的朴素认知，是彝族文化的重要组成部分。其英文译本具有独特的民族性和地域性，是非遗少数民族史诗外译的一个典范。文本中涉及大量的数字翻译，对于数字翻译，一方面要处理好数字本身的艺术特色和诗歌的韵律，另一方面还要注重民族文化内涵的传达。在《查姆》英译本中，徐蔚和熊莺对归化和异化两种翻译策略均有用到。本文归纳出徐蔚和熊莺译本数字英译策略和方法，以期为非遗史诗翻译提供借鉴。
