Journal of Chinese Marxism studies Vol.2 No.4.jpg

Marx’s idea of “world literature” was born in the historical context of world history and the formation of the world market, and it is not only an inevitable product of the change of world communication and material production, but also a theoretical crystallization of the collision and mutual understanding between Eastern and Western cultures. Based on the materialist conception of history, Marx revealed the ideological connotation of “world literature” from the dialectical unity of material and spiritual production, bourgeoisie and proletariat, cosmopolitanism and nationality. Reexamining and reinterpreting the Communist Manifesto can help us grasp Marx's view of literature from the source, better understand Marx’s idea of “world literature”, and promote the construction of a community of human destiny with the power of literary sympathy, thus demonstrating the vitality of Marxism in the times.
