We have argued that the reading facts of v*-to-T movement phenomena including the other verb movements are explained as a natural consequence of the status of T (un)specified to the Category, along with the independently motivated Search operation which selects and locates the items to be merged in Workspace. As T unspecified to Category does not allow main verbs with full formal features to be merged, Search selects ‘Auxiliary do’ which intrinsically lacks case feature in its formal feature and locates it in this T. Thus we argue that our proposal provides a unified account of various verb movements including v*-to-T movement in terms of the Category specification with Search operation in the minimalist program.
