목적 본 연구는 공공형어린이집 선정 과정에서 원장의 기관 운영 경험이 어떠한지를 탐색하여 보육현장에서의 현실적인 어려움은 무엇인지 알아보고, 공공형어린이집 정책에 관한 시사점을 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 연구참여자는 경기도 O시에 소재한 공공형어린이집 원장 4명이며, 자료수집은 2023년 9월 13일부터 10월 26일까지 총 3회기 심층면담을 통해 수집하였다. 결과 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공공형어린이집 지원 동기는 보육교직원의 전문성과 안정성 부족, 원 운영의 어려움, 선정에 대한 기대였다. 둘째, 공공형어린이집 선정 후 원장의 부정적 경험은 기대에 못 미치는 원아모집, 공공형 평가기준 충족 어려움으로 나타났고, 긍정적 경험은 공공형어린이집의 엄격한 관리체계와 운영의 보람으로 나타났다. 결론 공공형어린이집으로 선정된 원장들은 기존 민간·가정 어린이집 보다 더 전문적이고 안정적으로 운영하는 공공성을 띤 보육기관으로 거듭나는 경험을 하였다. 하지만, 기대에 못 미치는 원아모집, 공공형 평가기준 충족어려움 등이 있었다. 본 연구는 공공형어린이집의 실제 어려움을 알아보고, 공공형어린이집 운영의 긍정적, 부정적 측면에서의 시사점을 제공하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of the director through the process before and after the selection of a public daycare center. Through this, we will investigate what are the practical difficulties in the childcare field and provide implications for the public daycare center policy. Methods The study participants were four directors of a public daycare center located in O City, Gyeonggi-do, and Data were collected through in-depth interviews for a total of three sessions from September 13 to October 26, 2023. Results The main results of the study are as follows. First, the motivations for applying to public daycare centers were the lack of professionalism and stability of childcare staff, difficulties in operating the center, and expectations about selection. Second, the negative experiences of directors after being selected for public daycare centers were shown as lower-than-expected student recruitment and difficulties in meeting public daycare evaluation criteria, while positive experiences were shown as the strict management system of public daycare centers and the rewards of operation. Conclusions The directors who were selected as public daycare centers experienced that they were reborn as childcare institutions with public characteristics that were more professional and stable than existing private and home daycare centers. However, there were some problems such as lower than expected student recruitment and difficulty in meeting public evaluation criteria. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it examined the actual difficulties of public daycare centers and provided implications on the positive and negative aspects of operating public daycare centers.
