해방 직후 삼일운동 회고담 비판 - 준비과정의 쟁점들을 중심으로

Criticism of Reminiscence of the March 1st Movement Right After Liberation : Focusing on the issues in the preparation process

삼일운동 백주년을 맞이하면서 잘못된 역사적 사실이 바로잡힌 경우도 많았지만, 과거부터 지속되어 온 논쟁들이 되살아나는 상황들이 있었다. 대표적으로대한독립선언서 집필 시점과 삼일독립선언서 공약삼장 집필자에 관한 논쟁이바로 그것이었다. 이 논쟁들은 당사자들의 회고담에 근거해 지속되어 왔는데, 해방 직후 삼일운동 회고담들은 일정한 사실과 회고 주체의 당파성이 뒤섞여있는 경향이 있었다. 이 글에서는 회고담 간의 상호충돌과 당대 자료들의 활용을 통해 이러한 논쟁들을 재고하고자 하였다. 이 글에서는 대한독립선언서 배포에 관한 일제 측 정보 문건, 나경석이 조소앙에게 전달했던 것으로 추정되는 삼일독립선언서 초고본(조선독립선언서), 한국에 전하지 않았던 민족대표 33인에 대한 재판 기록, 삼일운동 삼대원칙이만들어진 과정이 담겨 있는 해방 직후 김도태의 저술을 새로이 발굴해 검토했다. 이를 통해 대한독립선언서 작성 시기를 3월로 파악했고, 삼일독립선언서의 공약삼장은 한용운의 문제 제기로 추가되었지만, 그 가필은 최남선이 진행했을가능성을 확인했다. 그리고 삼일운동 삼대원칙으로 알려진 대중화, 일원화, 비폭력화는 천도교계나 민족대표가 1919년 당대에 만든 원칙이 아니라 해방 이후 삼일운동의 역사적 의의를 설명하는 과정에서 만든 사실을 확인했다. 이 글의 회고담 비판 작업은 이제 막 시작된 연구 작업으로, 향후에 삼일운동 회고담의 전수 조사를 통해 더 확장되고 가다듬어질 것이다.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, there have been many cases where historical errors have been corrected, but there have also been situations where controversies that have persisted since the past have been revived. These controversies have continued based on the memoirs of the parties involved, and the memoirs of the March 1st Movement immediately after liberation tend to mix certain facts with each party’s partisanship. This paper attempts to reexamine these controversies through the mutual conflicts between the memoirs and the use of contemporary materials. In this paper, we newly discovered and examined Japanese information documents regarding the distribution of the Korean Declaration of Independence, the draft of the March 1st Independence Declaration (Joseon Independence Declaration) presumed to have been delivered to Jo So-ang, the trial records of national representatives that were not delivered to Korea, and Kim Do-tae’s writings written immediately after liberation that contain the process of creating the three principles of the March 1st Movement. Through this, we were able to confirm the publication of the Korean Declaration of Independence in March, the writing of the Three Pledges by Choi Nam-seon, and the creation of the three principles of the March 1st Movement after liberation.
