경성여자의학전문학교와 부속병원의 설립 및 건축 과정

The Process of Establishment and Construction of the Keijo Women’s Medical College and Affiliated Hospital

경성여자의학전문학교는 1938년 설립된 여성의학교육기관으로서 전문적인 교육체계와 교육시설을갖추어 체계적인 여성의학교육을 가능하게 함으로써 근대 의학사에서 역사적 의미를 갖는 교육기관이었다. 이연구는 경성여자의학전문학교의 설립과정에서 전문적인 의학교육을 위한 교육 및 의료시설이 어떻게 형성되었는가를 추적하고자 하였다. 1938년 5월 1일 개교 직후 경성의학전문학교 시설 일부를 사용했던 경성여자의학전문학교는 1938년 12월 이후에는 명륜정 경성고등상업학교 교사 일부를 사용하였고, 1939년 11월 경성고등상업학교가 종암정으로 옮겨간 후교지 전체를 사용하게 되었다. 이 시기에 경성고등상업학교 본 교사를 외래본관으로 용도 변경하고 증, 개축하는 공사와 동쪽으로 병실을 신축하는 공사가 진행되었을것으로 추정된다. 그 외 도서관, 기숙사, 취사장 등에 대한 부분적인 공사가 동시에 진행되었을 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그로부터 약 22개월이 경과한 1941년 9월 각종 증, 개축공사와 함께 병실 신축 공사가 완료되었다. 경성여자의학전문학교와 부속병원은 각각 교지의 서편과 동편을 중심으로 영역을 형성하게 되었다. 경성고등상업학교 구 본관을 중심으로 경성여자의학전문학교 본교사와 교실이 배치되었고 경성고등상업학교 본 교사를중심으로 부속병원 외래본관과 병실이 배치되었다. 경성고등상업학교와 일정 기간 공존했기 때문에 발생한 단계적인 건축공사의 결과이기도 했고 상대적으로 대로변에가까워 환자 접근이 편리한 동편에 부속병원이 위치하는것이 합리적이었다고 볼 수 있다. 교지 교환과 대규모용도 변경 및 증, 개축공사는 유래를 찾아보기 어려운것이었지만 당시 현실적인 조건 속에서 가장 합리적인 방안을 모색한 결과라고 볼 수 있다.

Keijo Women’s Medical College (KWMC), established in 1938, was a fully developed women’s medical education institution with a professional education system and educational facilities. This study sought to track how the educational and medical facilities at Keijo Women’s Medical College, intended for professional medical education, were formed. Keijo Women’s Medical College opened on May 1, 1938, at Keijo Medical College and later relocated to the site of Keijo College of Commerce in December 1938. After November 1939, when Keijo College of Commerce moved, the entire site and its buildings were utilized. During this period, Keijo College of Commerce’s main building was repurposed as the main building of the hospital and construction began on a new hospital to the east. In addition, partial construction of the library, dormitory, kitchen, and other facilities was carried out simultaneously. In September 1941, the construction of the hospital, along with expansion and renovation work, was completed. Keijo Women’s Medical College and its hospital were arranged around the west and east sides of the school grounds. The main building of Keijo Women’s Medical College was located around the former main building of Keijo College of Commerce. In addition, the main building and wards of the hospital were arranged around the main building of Keijo College of Commerce. This arrangement was the result of phased construction, and it made sense to locate the hospital on the main street for convenient patient access. It can be seen as the result of seeking the most reasonable plan in the context of site exchange, large-scale repurposing, expansion, and renovation.
