Purpose - This research aims to analyze the effect of Organizational Socialization Tactics, especially Institutionalized Socialization Tactics, on Unethical Pro-organizational Behavior (UPB) and the moderating effect of Impression management on the relationship between Institutionalized Socialization Tactics and UPB. Design/Methodology/Approach - To analyze the direct effect of Institutionalized Socialization Tactics On UPB and the moderating effect of Impression Management, a sample was collected from 277 workers in Korea via an online survey. All data was analyzed after removing outliers. Findings - Firstly, there was a positive effect of Institutionalized Socialization Tactics on UPB. Secondly, there was a moderating effect of Impression management on the relationship between institutionalized Socialization Tactics and UPB. Research Implications - The important implication of this study is that the desire to protect the identity of an organization and to keep the reciprocal rule formed in the socialization process can lead to side effects like UPB. Moreover, workers performing Impression Management will undertake more UPB to receive a good impression in the socialization process to protect the identity of organization and reciprocal relation than those who do not. This research implies the importance of Organizational Socialization Tactics and widens the sense of understanding on UPB. Managers must consider the dark side of Organizational Socialization Tactics and Impression Management to prevent unethical issues.
