골목상권에서 ‘장소성’은 유효한가?

Is ‘Placeness’ Valid in Alley Commercial Area?

본 연구는 전국적으로 동형동색(同型同色)의 골목상권이 범람하고 있는 가운데 골목상권의 구성 요소가 장소성을 형성하고, 이러한 장소성이 공간력(행동 의도)을 매개하는지를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 골목상권의 구성 요소를 형태적, 기능적, 행태적 요소로 구분하고, 장소성을 장소 정체성, 장소 애착, 장소 의미로 세분화하였다. 서울 성수동 서울숲 카페거리를 대상으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 골목상권의 구성 요소 중 행태적 요소는 장소 정체성, 장소 애착, 장소 의미 모두 유의미한 영향력을 보인 반면, 형태적 요소는 장소 의미 형성에만 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 장소성 중에는 장소 애착만이 공간력을 형성하는 요인이었다. 셋째, 골목상권의 구성 요소가 직접적으로 공간력에 영향을 미치지는 못하였다. 결국 골목상권에서 장소성은 일부 유효하게 작동하고 있었다. 특히 방문자의 경험과 활동, 즉 행태적 요소를 기반으로 형성된 개인적 차원의 장소 애착은 재방문, 추천 등 긍정적 행동 의도로 이어짐을 확인하였다.

Amid the proliferation of homogeneous alley commercial districts across the country, this study empirically examines whether the components of alley districts contribute to the formation of placeness, and whether such placeness mediates spatial power (behavioral intention). To this end, the components of alley commercial districts were categorized into morphological, functional, and behavioral elements, and placeness was subdivided into place identity, place attachment, and place meaning. The study analyzed the case of the Seongsu-dong Seoul Forest Café Street in Seoul. The results are as follows: First, among the components of alley commercial districts, behavioral elements had significant influence on all three aspects of placeness—place identity, place attachment, and place meaning—whereas morphological elements only influenced the formation of place meaning. Second, among the dimensions of placeness, only place attachment was found to be a significant factor in forming spatial power. Third, the components of the alley commercial district did not have a direct effect on spatial power. Ultimately, placeness remains partially operative within alley commercial contexts. In particular, individual-level place attachment, which is formed based on visitors’ experiences and activities (i.e., behavioral elements), was found to lead to positive behavioral intentions such as return visits and recommendations.
