This study aims to reinterpret the grid structure, which has been a fundamental element in urban planning, as a formative language and apply it to contemporary furniture design. Traditionally, grids have been used as a system to organize space and establish order in urban planning, architecture, and design. However, this study explores its potential as a formative device that structures relationships between humans, spaces, and objects. To this end, a cabinet design was selected as the subject, employing brass and wood as the main materials. Traditional metalcraft techniques, such as cold joints and mechanical interlocks, were utilized to construct a structure in which the contrasting materials support each other through tension and balance. Furthermore, by applying variations in the proportion and arrangement of grids, the rigid structure was transformed into a more flexible and dynamic spatial composition. This study is significant in that it applies grids not merely as structural elements but as a formative language that visualizes relationships and induces spatial experiences between users, space, and objects. It also confirms the potential for further development into a series of furniture works based on the formative characteristics and relational possibilities of grids.
