During the Late Qing period, with the rise of the “Novel Revolution” and the advancement in printing technology, many novels were published in newspapers and magazines, gaining widespread popularity. This trend contributed to the flourishing development of literature journals. Novel with Embroidered Portrait(《绣像小说》), as the first specialized novel magazine founded domestically, not only published numerous original works but also featured a rich collection of translated literature works, holding a unique position and significance among journals in Late Qing Dynasty. These works exhibited characteristics in terms of material selection, translation strategies, and methods. Therefore, this paper will focus on the translated literature works of this journal as its research subject. Drawing on Lefevere’s rewriting theory and the socio-cultural context of Late Qing Dynasty, it will analyze the strategies, reasons, and impacts of translators’ adaptations and rewritings from the perspectives of patronage and poetics, aiming to provide references and insights for related research.
