A Historical Study of Female Red Army Soldiers in the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Region Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army

The female Red Army soldiers in the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Region Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army represent a unique group within the Long March. Based on available historical records, there were at least seven named female Red Army soldiers in the column. Among them, Li Guihong and Gan Tang were two of the thirty female soldiers who participated in the Long March with the Central Red Army. As key propagandists in the column, they actively promoted revolutionary ideals, visited the poor, and conducted extensive mass mobilization work during the column’s struggles. They continuously boosted morale, united in their efforts, and made significant contributions to the development of the column. They endured hardships and suffering beyond what ordinary soldiers could bear and faced life-threatening challenges that most women could not withstand. In their fight “for faith” and pursuit of “a world for all”, they made tremendous sacrifices. This paper aims to examine the historical facts and explore the full story, seeking to restore the heroic deeds and indomitable spirit of these female Red Army soldiers during those turbulent years.

中国工农红军川滇黔边区游击纵队中的女红军是长征中女红军的一个特别存在，以目前史料来看，她们中有名有姓的女红军至少有7 名。这7 名女红军中，李桂洪和甘棠是随中央红军长征的30 名女红军中的两名。这两名女红军作为纵队的宣传骨干，在纵队斗争过程中，她们积极宣传、访贫问苦，深入开展民运工作。她们不断鼓舞士气，团结奋斗，为纵队发展做出了巨大贡献。她们承受了一般战士难以承受的艰辛和痛苦，忍受了一般女性难以忍受的生命考验，她们在“为信仰而战”和追求“天下为公”之中作出了巨大的牺牲。本文试考其史实，探其本末，以期还原那段烽火岁月中女红军们的英勇事迹与不屈精神。
