스마트폰 사용 유형과 주의집중의 관계에서 스마트폰 의존의 매개효과 : 초등학교 4학년 학생을 중심으로

The Mediating Effect of Smartphone Dependency in the Relationship Between Smartphone Usage Types and Attention: Focusing on Fourth-Grade Elementary School Students

본 연구는 초등 4학년을 대상으로 스마트폰 사용 유형(연락, 검색취미, 오 락)이 주의집중에 미치는 영향과 이 과정에서 스마트폰 의존도의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 연구 데이터는 한국아동·청소년패널조사 2018의 초등학교 4학년 자료를 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 오락 유형은 스마트폰 의존도에 가장 큰 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 연락 또한 유의미한 정적 영향을 나타냈다. 반면, 검색취미 는 스마트폰 의존도를 낮추는 부적 영향을 보였다. 스마트폰 의존도는 주의 집중(=부주의)에 강한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 연락 유형은 주의집중에 대 한 직접효과와 의존도를 통한 간접효과 모두 유의미하여 부분매개 관계를 보였다. 반면, 검색취미와 오락 유형은 의존도를 통한 간접효과만 유의미하 여 완전매개 관계를 보였다. 특히 오락 유형은 의존도를 매개로 주의집중(= 부주의)에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 초등학생 의 스마트폰 사용이 단순히 부정적 영향을 미치는 것이 아니라 사용 목적에 따라 차별적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 시사한다.

This study examined the effects of different smartphone usage types (communication, search/hobby, entertainment) on attention focus among 4th-grade elementary school students, and investigated the mediating effect of smartphone dependency. Data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 for 4th graders was analyzed. Results showed entertainment usage had the strongest positive effect on smartphone dependency, followed by communication usage. Conversely, search/ hobby usage negatively affected smartphone dependency. Smartphone dependency showed a strong positive influence on inattention. Communication usage demonstrated both direct and indirect effects on inattention through dependency, indicating partial mediation. Search/hobby and entertainment usage showed only indirect effects through dependency, suggesting full mediation. Notably, entertainment usage had the greatest impact on inattention through smartphone dependency. These findings suggest elementary students’ smartphone usage does not uniformly affect them negatively but varies according to usage purpose.
