천연 및 인공 아타카마이트로 제조한 전통 안료 하엽의 재료학적 특성과 내후성 평가

Evaluation of Weathering Resistance and Material Characteristics for the Hayeob within the Traditional Pigments Made from Natural and Artificial Atacamite

이 연구에서는 천연 녹염동석 및 청동합금의 인공적 부식물로 제조한 녹색 안료 하엽의 재료학적 특성을 비교하였으며, 이를 구분할 수 있는 요소를 규명하였다. 천연광물과 인공재료로 만든 두 종의 하엽은 입도분포는 유사하나, 전자는 녹색을 후자는 청록색을 보여 색상에 차이가 있다. 미세조직 분석 결과, 천연재료산 하엽은 결정질의 과립상 입자를 가지나, 인공재료로 만든 것은 둥글고 불규칙한 형태를 보이며 입자에는 금속성 검은색 반점이 있다. 두 종의 하엽은 모두 아타카마이트가 주성분이나, 천연재료로 만든 하엽에서 규산염 광물이 검출되었고, 청동합금 부식물로 만든 것은 코툰나이트가 산출되었다. 촉진내후성시험에서 나타난 색차(ΔE)로 볼 때, 천연재료로 만든 하엽(5.44)이 인공재료로 만든 하엽(17.89)보다 내구성이 높았다. 따라서 두 종의 하엽에 대한 색상과 미세조직 및 조성과 내후성의 차이가 밝혀졌으며, 이 결과는 한국의 전통 단청에 사용된 하엽의 원료와 제조기법을 해석할 수 있는 기준이 될 것이다.

In this study, the material characteristics of two green pigments Hayeob made by natural atacamite and artificial materials derived from bronze alloy corrosion were compared to identify factors that can differentiate them. The two types of the Hayeob using natural minerals and artificial materials have similar particle size distributions, but the former is green and the latter is blue green, showing differences in color. Result of microtexture analysis showed that the Hayeob making natural atacamite had crystalline granular particles, while the Hayeob using artificial materials had a round and irregular shape with black metallic spots in grains. Both types of the Hayeob were mainly composed of atacamite, but silicate minerals were detected in the Hayeob made by natural materials, and cotunnite was present in the Hayeob using bronze alloy corrosion products. Based on the color difference (ΔE) shown in the accelerated weathering resistance test, the natural material made Hayeob (5.44) was more durable than the one made artificial materials (17.89). Therefore, the differences in color, microtexture, composition and weathering resistance of the two types Hayeob were revealed, and these results will serve as a standard for interpreting the raw materials manufacturing technique of the Hayeob used in Korean traditional Dancheong.
