A Reconsideration of the Author of the Hoeun-gyeongheombang

Objectives : The Hoeun-gyeongheombang is a medical manuscript of late Joseon Dynasty. Recent research has reported that it was written by Shinryang(1596-1663). The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the author of the Hoeun-gyeongheombang by reviewing related literature. Methods : 1. The Hoeun-gyeongheombang was greatly influenced by the Chimgu-gyeongheombang, which indicate that it was either written by Heo Im himself or by someone who was influenced by it. 2. The Heo Im-bang, quoted in the Saui-gyeongheombang, is closely related to the Kim Young-hwan collection. 3. The collection owned by Kim Young-hwan is closer to the original version than the collection owned by Korea University. 4. The Hoeun-gyeongheombang has a closer transmission relationship with the Samui-Ilheombang than the Saui-gyeongheombang. Results : 1. Hoeun-gyeongheombang has a great influence on Chimgu-gyeongheombang and was written by Heoim himself or by a person who was greatly influenced by it. 2. Heo im-bang, quoted in Saui-gyeongheombang, was closely related to Kim Young-hwan’s collection. 3. The collection owned by Kim Young-hwan is closer to the original version than the collection owned by Korea University. 4. Hoeun-gyeongheombang has a closer transmission relationship with Samui-Ilseombang than Saui-gyeongheombang. Conclusions : The Hoeun-gyeongheombang is presumed to have been written by Heo Im himself or by someone who was greatly influenced by him. It is considered to be a closely related copy to the Samui-Ilheombang.
