Development and Instructional Application of a Korean Medicine-Specific LLM Chatbot in Traditional Korean Medical Education

Objectives : This study aimed to develop a ChatGPT based chat bot that is specialized in Korean Medical education and to evaluate its instructional potential. Methods : A ChatGPT based chat bot that has been trained in Korean Medical data was applied in basic and clinical education of Korean Medicine. Cases were analyzed to investigate potential instructional application. Results : The developed Korean Medicine-specific chat bot showed high level of response in applications of Korean Medical knowledge and mock patient performance. When applied to actual CPX scenarios, it showed fairly accurate and consistent consultation results. In terms of basic subjects, its instructional value was verified through examples such as creation of customized instruction material. On the other hand, it showed errors in some Korean Medical knowledge and was limited in its expression, indicating a necessity for prior data supplementation and instructor guidance. Conclusions : The ChatGPT based Korean Medicine chat bot has great potential to act as an effective tool to promote self-regulated learning and supplement clinical experience. Additional research on strengthening Korean Medicine knowledge, increasing accuracy and applying it within the educational field is desired.
