A Study on Arab Maghreb Novels: Focusing on Moroccan Novels

This study diachronically examined the development process of novels in Arab Maghreb countries, particularly Morocco. Following ʿAbd al-ʿĀlī Būṭayyb's periodization (formation stage, realism stage, and experimental stage), we analyzed the development process of Moroccan novels from their early beginnings to the present by stages, and investigated the representative writers and works of each stage. As a result of the research, we were able to identify and categorize the characteristics of Moroccan Novels in each period and the major writers and works corresponding to these periods, confirming that modern Moroccan Novels have been continuously developing since the late 1990s to the early 2000s with quantitative growth in publications and diversification of themes and genres.
