과거제 폐지 이후의 경학 시험과 출제 문제 고찰: 『經義問對』 수록 시제를 중심으로

A Study on the Examination and Examination Questions after the Civil Service Examination: With a Focus on Questions and Answers in Gyeongui-mun-dae

경의문대는 1894년 이후 새로운 관리 선발 제도가 마련되어야 하는 상황에서 학부 대신이 고종의 명을 받들어 전국에 훈령을 내려 經義로 시취한 제도이다. 경의문대는 총 4회(1897·1900·1903·1906)에 걸쳐 설행되었는데, 제도 자체에 대한 생소함과 구한말~대한제국기 문인들에 대한 연구자들의 관심 부족 등으로 인해 개인 문집이나 일기 등에 관련 내용이 실려 있음에도 불구하고 지금껏 크게 주목받지 못하였다. 본고에서는 『경의문대』로 전래되고 있는 3종의 개별 책자와 경의문대의 문답을 수록하고 있는 개인 문집의 기록을 토대로 경의문대의 시제를 복원하였다. 그 결과 시제의 형식과 내용은 四書疑 시험과 거의 유사하였으며 기출된 시제를 바탕으로 약간의 변형을 꾀한 정도였다. 다만 사서의 시험이 구절 내 의문점에 초점을 맞추어 출제된 것과는 달리, 한 장 안에서 크게 연관성 없는 질문을 나열하는 방식의 시제들이 출제되는 등의 차이점 또한 포착되었다. 이 시제들과 답안들은 전통적 방식의 과거 시험에서 근대화 되어가던 시기의 과도기적 경학 시험의 형태를 보여줌과 동시에, 20세기 초반 유생들의 경학 수준을 가늠해 볼 수 있다는 점에서 중요한 자료적 가치를 가진다.

Gyeongui-mun-dae is a system that was ordered by the Minister of Education to the nation at the behest of King Gojong in a situation where a new management selection system had to be established after 1894. Gyeongui-mun-dae was held four times in total, and the unfamiliarity of the system itself and the end of the Joseon DynastyDue to the lack of interest of researchers in the writers of the Korean Empire, it has not received much attention so far despite the fact that related contents are contained in personal writings and diaries. In this paper, the of Gyeongui Mundae was restored based on the records of three individual brochures and personal writings containing the questions and answers of Gyeongui Mundae, which have been handed down to Gyeongui Mundae . As a result, the form and content of the tense were almost similar to those of the Saseo-ui, and some modifications were made based on the previous tense. However, unlike the librarian's test, which focused on questions in the phrase, differences were also detected, such as the tenses in the way of listing unrelated questions in a chapter. These tenses and answers have important data value in that they show the form of transitional pedagogical tests in the modern period in the traditional way of past tests and measure the level of pedagogy of Confucian scholars in the early 20th century.
