기억에 남는 관광 경험(Memorable Tourism Experiences : MTE)에 대한 국내외 연구동향 비교 고찰

Comparative Analysis of Domestic and International Research Trends on Memorable Tourism Experiences(MTE)

목적 본 연구는 기억에 남는 관광경험(MTE)의 중요성이 강조되는 가운데, 국내외 연구동향을 비교·분석하여 국내 연구의 경향을 정리하고 향후 발전 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 관광자의 심리와 행동에 미치는 MTE 의 영향이 학문적·실무적으로 주목받고 있다. 특히 관광 경험이 심리적 웰빙 및 행동적 반응에 미치는 메커니즘을 구명하는 연구의 필요성이 지속적으로 제기되고 있다. 방법 국내 논문은 Google Scholar 에서 2010 년부터 2024 년까지 발표된 26 편을 선정하였고, 해외 연구는 2021 년 이후 발표된 최신 리뷰 논문 5 편(Bai et al., 2023; Dahanayake et al., 2024; Hosany et al., 2022; Hosseini et al., 2023; Sinaga et al. 2024)을 중심으로 분석하였다. 각 연구는 개념 적용, 주제 확장, 디지털 연계성 등을 기준으로 비교되었다. 특히 해외 연구는 문화적 맥락, 기술 환경 변화를 반영하여 MTE 개념의 해석을 다양화하는 흐름을 보였다. 결과 국내 연구는 Kim 등(2012)의 MTE 척도를 바탕으로 만족도, 행동의도, 충성도 등을 분석하는 정량적 방법을 주로 사용한다. 최근에는 감정 회상, 웰빙, 스마트 관광 등으로 주제가 확대되고 있으나, 여전히 변수 중심 연구가 많고 감정·인지 구조 탐색은 부족하다. 국제 연구는 개념 정교화에 중점을 두며 감정적 요소와 디지털 경험을 포함한다. 결론 국내 연구는 향후 감정 기반 체험 해석, 문화적 맥락 반영, 디지털 환경과의 연계를 통해 이론적·실무적 기여를 확대할 수 있다. 특히 기술 발전과 경험 소비 패턴의 변화를 반영한 새로운 연구 주제 발굴이 요구된다. 본 연구는 국내외 동향 비교를 통해 MTE 연구의 방향성과 기초자료를 제공한다.

Purpose This study compares domestic and international research trends on Memorable Tourism Experience (MTE), identifies Korean research directions, and suggests future strategies. MTE’s psychological and behavioral impact on tourists has gained increasing academic and practical attention. The need to understand how tourism experiences affect psychological wellbeing and behavioral responses is also growing. Methods Twenty-six domestic studies published between 2010 and 2024 were collected via Google Scholar, and five international review articles since 2020(Bai et al., 2023; Dahanayake et al., 2024; Hosany et al., 2022; Hosseini et al., 2021; Sinaga et al., 2024) were analyzed. Studies were compared based on conceptual application, topic expansion, and digital integration. International research increasingly reflects cultural contexts and technological changes in interpreting MTE. Results Domestic studies mostly use quantitative methods based on Kim et al.(2012)’s MTE scale to analyze satisfaction, behavioral intention, and loyalty. Recently, topics have expanded to emotional recall, well-being, and smart tourism. However, many studies remain variable-centered, with limited focus on emotional and cognitive structures. International studies emphasize conceptual refinement and include emotional and digital experience elements. Conclusion Future Korean research should deepen theoretical and practical contributions by addressing emotional structures, cultural contexts, and digital transitions. Identifying new topics reflecting technological changes and evolving experiential patterns is also necessary. This study provides comparative insights and foundational directions for future MTE research.
