Quantitative Trends and Characteristics of Modern Loanwords in Korean and Japanese - Based on a Constructed Newspaper Corpus -

This paper compares and analyzes the characteristics of foreign word usage in modern Japan and Korea. While research on foreign words is active in Japan, studies on Korean remain relatively underdeveloped, making it challenging to analyze the factors behind the increasing use of foreign words in both countries. To address this gap, I compiled Korean newspaper data from 1945 to 2015 and compared them with existing research findings from Japan. The analysis revealed that Japanese incorporates approximately 1.3 times more foreign words than Korean, with both countries experiencing an increase in foreign word usage in modern times. While both languages frequently use foreign words with abstract meanings, Japanese employs them across broader contexts, including daily life, whereas Korean tends to use them in limited contexts such as specialized and technical fields.

本論文は、現代日本と韓国における外来語使用の特徴を比較分析したものである。日本では外来語使用の量的変化や意味拡張に関する研究が活発に行われているが、韓国語に関する研究は比較的不足しているため、現代の日韓における外来語の増加傾向に対する背景を分析することが困難である。このような研究の差を補い、日本と韓国における外来語使用の特徴を量的および質的に分析するため、筆者は1945年から2015年までの韓国新聞データを構築し、これを基に日本の先行研究の結果と比較分析した。 その結果、日本語が韓国語より約1.3倍多くの外来語を使用していることが明らかになった。韓国語では1995年以降、外来語の出現率が一貫して増加している一方で、日本語では2000年から2010年の間に一時的に増加が停滞したことが確認された。全体として、両国とも現代に入って外来語の使用が増加していることが明らかになった。また、意味分野の分析では、日本語と韓国語の両方で抽象的な意味の外来語が多く使用されているが、日本語は日常生活を含む広範な分野で外来語が使われているのに対し、韓国語は特定の分野や専門用語などに限られた外来語の使用が多いことが確認された。この分析を通じて、日本語と韓国語における外来語使用の通時的な推移と特徴が明らかになった。
