This study criticizes today's general concept of peace, 'the absence of war and conflict', and argues that the ideal to build a peaceful world may be a utopian idea. To this end, this study first divides peace into two images and introduces the existence of the concept of republican peace before liberalism became a grand discourse. And since the concept of peace as it is today began to replace the concept of republican peace in 1945, we will develop a thesis by analyzing Ian Buruma's Year Zero, which clearly contains the process. Conflict is emphasized in the concept of republican peace, and non-governance is regarded as freedom. Ian Buruma's Year Zero illustrates the process of the fall of the republic and the development of the dominant discourse of liberalism. However, many researchers have made the mistake of reading Year Zero from a liberal perspective. Year Zero should be read from a republican perspective. If you look at today's world order after analyzing Year Zero from the perspective of the republican system, claiming liberal peace can be violent, and the way to build peace through the establishment of a single world order is a utopian idea.
