The purpose of this study is to compare English learners’ perceptions of evaluating and using machine translation (MT) output across different proficiency levels. A total of 60 participants took part in the study: 23 intermediate-level and 37 advancedlevel English learners. Participants were asked to assess the quality of translations produced by three different machine translators and to reflect on their use of such tools. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency analysis and chi-square tests, while qualitative responses were examined through content analysis. The findings indicate that both groups were able to evaluate translation output appropriately in many cases, regardless of their proficiency. However, differences were also observed in the evaluation of specific results depending on the learners’ English levels. These findings highlight the importance of developing learners’ critical awareness when using MT tools and suggest the need for instructional support to foster more accurate and informed evaluation of machine-generated translations.
