글로벌 통일교육 관점에서의 재외동포 통일교육의 현황과 과제

Current Status and Challenges of Overseas Korean Unification Education from the Global Unification Education Perspective

본 연구는 한반도 통일을 위한 국제적 지지를 이끌어낼 수 있는 글로벌 통일교육의 핵심 주체인 재외동포의 역할을 탐구한다. 이를 위해 글로벌 통일교육의 관점에서, 재외동포를 대상으로 한 통일교육의 현황을 분석하고 향후 발전을 위한 전략 과제를 제안한다. 연구의 결과로 첫째, 재외동포 대상 통일교육 체제의 구축 및 확대, 둘째, 해외 통일 거버넌스 체계의 마련, 셋째, 재외동포 학습공간을 글로벌 통일교육 플랫폼으로 활용하는 방안이 포함된다. 통일정책과 통일교육을 둘러싼 논쟁이 존재하지만, 한반도 통일 문제 해결을 위한 국제사회의 협력이 필요하다는 점에는 광범위한 공감대가 형성되어 있다. 이러한 맥락에서, 글로벌 통일교육에 대한 연구는 국제사회의 담론과 동력을 내부로 끌어들이는 원심력적 기능을 수행하며, 통일정책 실현을 위한 접점을 마련하는 데 기여할 수 있다.

This study explores the role of overseas Koreans as key agents of global unification education capable of garnering international support for the unification of the Korean Peninsula. From the perspective of global unification education, the research analyzes current educational practices targeting overseas Koreans and proposes strategic tasks for future development. These include: (1) the establishment and expansion of a unification education system for overseas Koreans; (2) the development of an overseas unification governance framework; and (3) the utilization of overseas Korean learning spaces as platforms for global unification education. While debates persist surrounding unification policy and education, there is broad consensus on the necessity of international cooperation in resolving the Korean unification issue. In this context, research on global unification education can serve a centripetal function—drawing international discourse and momentum inward to support policy realization on the Korean Peninsula.
