Background/Objectives: This study provides basic information for residential environment planning for preschool children by identifying differences in residential environment satisfaction according to the residential area and structure type of households raising preschool children (HPCs). Methods: This study analyzed the Korea Housing Survey 2022 microdata and targeted HPCs with one or more members under the age of seven years. Eight items of residential environment satisfaction, closely related to the parenting environment of HPCs, were used as dependent variables. In the first stage of the analysis, the effect of residential areas and structure types on each item was analyzed. In the second stage, the difference in each item were explored according to the interaction between residential areas and structure types. Results: Satisfaction with “ease of access to urban parks and green areas” and “pedestrian safety on surrounding roads” were the highest, while satisfaction with “ease of access to cultural facilities” was the lowest. Satisfaction with ease of access to commercial, medical and cultural facilities was highest in Seoul. HPCs in apartments showed higher residential environment satisfaction than those in non-apartments across all items. The difference in residential environment satisfaction according to the interaction between residential area and structure type was significant in all eight items. Conclusion/Implications: Based on the findings, application points were derived for each residential environment satisfaction item according to the residential area and structure type. To improve the ease of access to cultural facilities in non-Seoul areas, expanding new cultural facilities and the multi-use of existing public facilities were suggested.
